“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT” - The Panda Chow Chow’s Daily Diet

Panda Chow Chows HQ receives many messages daily from fans asking what the Panda Chow Chows eat to maintain their soft, fluffy and shinny coats and their high levels of energy. While there are many factors contributing to TuDou, YüMi and DouDou's general health and wellbeing (such as their exercise routine, diet, living conditions to name a few), the saying “We are what we eat” applies not only to human beings, but also to our beloved pets.

The Panda Chow Chows eat two meals a day, one in the morning and one at night. They are fed a mixture of dry kibbles and a range of organic whole foods so they receive all the nutrients that growing puppies require.

Kibbles have numerous nutritional benefits and contain all the necessary nutrients, minerals and vitamins in the correct balance that a healthy dog requires daily: proteins, fats, fibres, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins. Another benefit of kibbles is oral hygiene. All dogs at any age need teeth cleaning on a daily basis. Plaque build up results in plaque deposit which can calcify in less than three days. Calculus deposits cannot be removed and can cause complex, if not deadly, dental and gum diseases. Kibbles are excellent for plaque removal with its abrasive surfaces which can easily remove the existing plaque on dogs’ teeth. Eating kibble daily removes TuDou, YüMi and DouDou’s plaque regularly and ensures that no tartar will form.

Dogs are omnivores and need a balanced diet to survive. However for a dog to THRIVE, they rely on protein. Protein contains essential amino acids that are crucial to the process of cell production. Without enough protein in their diet, dogs can lose energy, their coats will become dull, and their immune systems can become weaker. In order to feed our Panda Chow Chows a high quality diet, extra protein is always added to their meals. It is also important to give them a variety of different types of protein rather than just animal protein.

The best protein foods are ones where the dog can easily render the available protein from the particular food source and absorb it into their systems. These are foods with high biological value and are the best protein source for dogs as they are easiest to digest.

Tudou, YüMi and DouDou’s protein sources come from a range of fresh organic whole foods with high biological value. These include: boiled eggs, fish (salmon and/or tuna), beef, lamb, chicken, liver, cheeses (hard cheeses and/or cottage cheese), soy milk and yogurt. Cottage cheese has lower fat content, therefore, TuDou, YüMi and DouDou are fed this more regularly.

The Panda Chow Chows are also fed small amounts of organic fruits (i.e. apples, strawberries, mangos, blueberries) and steamed organic vegetables (i.e. carrots, sweet potatoes, lettuce, spinach, broccoli) daily, which are mixed into their meals. A couple of times a week steamed brown rice and some nuts (almond and/or cashew) are also added to their meals for extra fibre and protein intake. It is all about having variety in their meals, and different types of fruits, vegetables, rice and nuts not only add important nutrients to their diet and gives them variety in flavours, but also makes meal times last longer making it an even more gratifying experience.

TuDou, YüMi and DouDou are given three different types of Vitamin supplements daily. In the morning, they are each given: Vitalmix (Kala health) - Full Spectrum Multi Vitamin, Mineral, Protein Formula. This supplement has a blend of 20 amino acids, 10 minerals and 14 vitamins that work together to support a healthy immune system and circulatory functions.

In the afternoon, the Panda Chow Chows are given: Dermatrix (Kala health) - Fatty Acid, MSM & Vitamins - For Healthy Skin & Shiny Coat. This is an essential fatty acid (EFA) supplement and contains Omega 3 and 6, 9 EFAs from Plant and fish oil sources, MSM, vitamins and minerals that all work together to promote healthy skin and shiny coat, and also reduces excessive shedding.

At night with dinner, the trio are fed: Arthrix (Kala health) - “Improved Formula: For Advanced Joint Maintenance”. While this supplement is designed to relieve age related joint and bone discomforts in older dogs, the ingredients are highly concentrated to target bone and joint maintenance. Therefore this supplement is ideal for bone and joint growth in puppies as well as its maintenance throughout a dog’s life.

Prevention is better than cure, and ensuring that TuDou, YüMi and DouDou have a healthy, balanced and nutritious diet is essential for them to live happy and high quality lives.

All our love,

Panda Chow Chows HQ x
